Autumn semester 2014 - course evaluation results
Introduction
All teachers evaluate their courses (lessons, seminars, tutorials) at least each two years. A standardised questionnaire is applied. The evaluation checks the teaching outcomes and allows the students to assess their teachers and give them feedback.
Material
The following questionnaires were applied at the autumn semester evaluation: standard questionnaire HISTd (german), HISTe (english), HISTf (french); colloquium questionnaire HISTK; language course questionnaire LING. In the autumn semester, the faculty evaluated 197 from about 800 offered courses. 3435 questionnaires were returned, scanned and assessed by the vice rectorate for teaching.
Methods
At "Read more" at the end of this page, there is a standardised questionnaire HISTd. It consists of a structured part with questions and an open part for comments. The courses are evaluated toward the end of term. The students have roughly ten minutes time to fill in the questionnaire. One of the students then brings the questionnaires in a sealed envelope to the dean's office where they are scanned. The teacher gets the results via email.
Results
The evaluation results (raw data) of the structured part are at the end of this section. Compared to the evaluation in spring semester 2014, the average grades remained the same in 5 out of 6 evaluated areas: teacher's commitment (5.7), aspiration level (3.2), course layout (5.0), overall course grade (5.3), and overall teacher grade (5.5). At knowledge transmission, the mean increased from 5.2 to 5.3.
