Master's in Slavic Languages and Literatures

Interaction with foreign countries and cultures requires that language barriers be overcome. For this reason, the program in Slavic Languages and Literatures (and Cultural Science) teaches basic language skills to all those who wish to study Eastern European cultures.

Language skills are the most important component of the Slavic Languages and Literatures program of study. Such skills are obtained parallel to the general course of study and intensified by stays abroad in Slavic countries. Along with Russian, the universities in Fribourg and Bern offer courses in Polish, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and a range of other Slavic and Eastern European languages. This wide range of language instruction is unrivaled in Switzerland.

The second major component of the Slavic Languages and Literatures program involves lectures and seminars in linguistics, literature and cultural philosophy.
